Mini Olympics Final!

Last Friday, the 24 children from years 1, 2 and 3 who received the highest amount of mini olympic points in the training, went to the Mini Olympic Final at The Grange! The children were competing against 5 other Christchurch schools!

When they arrived, The Grange sport leaders helped the children round various mini olympic challenges such as bean bag balancing, long jump and running through the agility ladder. Points were given to the children for every lap they achieved.

Hot and sweaty after many competitive challenges!

At the end of the afternoon, the points were totalled up and the children with the highest points received a medal from a paralympian! Tony Griffin won a gold medal in the Javelin and weight lifting in 1984 in New York and still holds one of his world records. He has cerebral palsy and a very inspirational man! Four children from our school were lucky enough to receive a medal from him!

Fantastic!

Well done!

Super achievment!

Well done to everybody who took part and a special thank you to Mr Moody from The Grange who organised the event!

And they’re off . . .

Well at long last, the day finally arrived.  After working their socks off all week on the SATs tests Y6 have set off on their well-deserved holiday to the Isle of Wight.  After a calm and steady morning, it was time to get on the coach and we were a little excited to say the least!!

After a short coach journey to Southampton, it was time to get on the ferry.  We quickly settled ourselves on the seats outside and enjoyed waving goodbye to the mainland as we set sail for the Isle of Wight.  It was avery calm journey and the sun even made a brief appearance for us.

It was only a short distance from East Cowes to the PGL site and, before we knew it, we were checking in and meeting our leaders.  Scott, Connor and Georgie explained all the rules to us and we listened really carefully.

THEN . . .  it was time to unpack our belongings and settle into our rooms.  Interestingly, the boys made short work of getting their rooms spic and span and the Room Points were allocated accordingly.

It didn’t take us long to unpack and then the time we had all been waiting for . . .  DINNER TIME!!!!  The options were roast pork or battered cod, with potato wedges, peas, carrots, salad bar and waffle with toffee sauce.  DELICIOUS.  Many of the children had seconds or thirds and there was even a ‘fourths’ for one person!!!  At the end of our meal we sang Happy Birthday to Jack and we are looking forward to sharing his birthday cake after our night hike.  We are off on that at 7:30pm and we’ll update you with more pictures from that later.  We are missing you all lots but having LOADS of fun!!

Chocolate Rocks?!

This week in Science year 3 have been learning all about the 3 different types of rock: sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic.
We used chocolate to make our own!

We used layers of milk and white to make sedimentary.

Then we made igneous rock.

We had to press really hard with our hands to apply heat and pressure to make a hard, smooth rock.

Finally Miss Parker made metamorphic – that involved lots of heat so she dipped her chocolate rock in tea! We then left it to cool.

It was such a fun lesson!

Twit Twoo the Owls Come to Year Twoooo!!

Last Monday, Year 2 were lucky enough to have 3 flying visitors come to see them in their classrooms! The feathered birds arrived with a man who told us all about owls – how they hunt, how they sleep and other interesting facts! Did you know that you can tell what time of day an owl hunts by the colour of their eyes?! We were even allowed to stroke the tawny owl’s tummy! It was very soft indeed.

A slow worm or a snake?!

Last week the children noticed that there was a very strange animal in the playground. Miss Cox was very surprised when she heard the excited voices shouting “snake!”. However when we all looked closer we noticed that in fact, it was a slow worm! Luckily Dan carefully picked it up and put it in the nature reserve.

Would you have touched it?!!
